Gary Hardwick got 2nd place today in standup downhill skateboarding at the gravity games.

The two-man event highlighted fast times, smooth riding and a shortage of hard bails that one would expect when people exceed speeds of 45 mph. Instead, the Providence crowd of 9,250 saw ever-consistent runs and professional riding from the field of 16 competitors that flocked from all parts of the world to compete in the 2001 Summer Gravity Games. However, crowds were probably more entertained by the stylish outfits and aerodynamic suits these speed junkies wear to help decrease wind resistance, which leads to quicker times.

In the end, it was Southern California's beach bum van Bommel claiming first, pork-chop sideburns and alien space suit-wearing Gary Hardwick in second, and rookie Mark Golter claiming the bronze medal.
