........ A Tale of an Old Skate Ditch

By: David Robarge

As we were driving down the road after a session at VANS in Orange my dad recognized this old neighborhood. He said that there was this old ditch he and his friends would skate, yet last time they skated it (back in 1987) they all got busted. I said hey let's go scout it out. We drove through this neighborhood till we saw a gate with a ditch behind it.

We noticed the big No Trespassing sign on the gate and the chain on the gate was loose enough to slip through. My dad and his friends believed back then that the cops made the chain loose to suck skaters in to bust them. I wasn't around back then, yet I don't see what the big deal is with an out of the way ditch.

We decided to take a different way in that would not be as noticeable. We parked our car across the street from the train tracks that are behind the ditch. From the top of the train tracks we could see the mud and the water that was running through a couple sections and even this cool roll in. We crawled through a hole in the fence and ran to skate this ditch before any cops came.

It was cool to skate this place and grind all over it.

Now it was time to split before the cops come.

To get to this place: The locked gate side is at the corner of Crystal View and Ashwood between two houses in the neighborhood by Lincoln and Glassell in Orange, CA. This is the entrance to take if you want the neighbors to see you and call the cops. The non-bust way to go is to park by the dance studio by the corner of Orange-Olive and Greenleaf that is off Lincoln in Orange. Then go across the street and up and over the train tracks and you will see it. Search Seek and Skate.
