........ A church with a mini ramp

My dad got a call from Dan Matsumoto, who is connected with the guys from G-Rock and asked if I was interested in skating at this church in Anaheim California. Hey, I always want to skate, so why not. My dad said that this church had a mini ramp inside and a street course outside .....I'm like saying .... did you say church?

The church event started at 7:00pm and we were gonna hit this place on our way back from the Hermosa Beach Soul Bowl comp. When we got there we were met at the door by Dan who got us in for free since it was 10 bucks to get in.

They had 3 Christian Punk bands that were playing that nite. When we got there the band Spoken was just going on, and they were hardcore and fast, there was a pit going off and everything, cool to skate too. There were a lot of kids here, and I always thought church was not supposed to be this much fun. I went right for the mini ramp and padded up. I took a few runs on the ramp and realized that I was just too burned out from the day we had at the Soul Bowl comp to skate. So my dad took over my skate and cruzed the ramp for a while so we would not look like total goofs. My dad is no ripper or anything, he just rolled around and grinded on the ramp. The kids thought it was cool that a old dude was riding the ramp. We then went out back and hung out with the other dudes that were skating the street course. My dad and Dan rolled around doing some old school freestyle tricks. Dan had this cool trick that he had a skateboard on each foot and spin around. My dad tripped some people out by doing two 360's in one. I guess no one ever sees anybody do this. We had a cool time hanging out.

The church is Cornerstone church and they may let you skate there, or you can check and see when they will have a nite with bands playing.

Dad's Note: I have never in 20 years of punk music ever seen slamming at a church let alone a Punk band playing. Heck, to see a ramp that is part of the church's permanent landscape is nothing short of wow. In my day, Punk music and skateboarding were never allowed at church, ohh how times have changed.
